MFD: Please Help Clear Hydrants PDF Print E-mail

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

snow-covered hydrant Snowstorms create a special concern for the Montclair Fire Department, with snowfalls and street plowing often hiding fire hydrants under large mounds of snow, making them difficult to find quickly. The MFD asks residents and business owners to help keep their neighborhood fire hydrants cleared so that in the event of a fire, firefighters don't lose precious time locating and shoveling them out before being able to hook up to them. Time lost could mean all the difference in an emergency.

Firefighters need a three-foot clearance on all sides of the hydrant. Please help your Fire Department - and your neighbors - by ensuring that the hydrant in your area is readily visible and accessible in the event of an emergency.

For further information, please contact the Montclair Fire Department at: 973-744-5000.

Sunday, January 25, 2015snow-covered no parking sign

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning -- a crippling and potentially historic blizzard to impact the area from late Monday into Tuesday, with snow accumulations of 20 to 30 inches.

Montclair residents are reminded that the Township has a parking ordinance in place, Township Ordinance 327-25, to facilitate snow removal on public streets. The ordinance prohibits parking on public streets during a snow event as well as parking a vehicle so that it extends into the roadway when it snows. The regulation applies when any accumulation of snow completely covers the roadway and obstructs road markings.

The parking prohibition remains in effect after the snowfall has stopped and until the entire block of roadway has been cleared of snow.
