BBQ grillThere’s nothing like outdoor grilling. It’s one of the most popular ways to cook food. But, a grill placed too close to anything that can burn is a fire hazard. They can be very hot, causing burn injuries. Follow these simple tips and you will be on the way to safe grilling.

- Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.

- The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.

- Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area.

Fireworks cause thousands of burns and eye injuries each year. People can enjoy fireworks safely if they follow a few simple safety tips:

FACTS

• In 2011, almost 18,000 fires were caused by fireworks.
• Sparklers cause 16% of fireworks injuries.

BE CAREFUL!

- Be safe. If you want to see fireworks, go to a public show put on by experts.

- Do not use consumer fireworks.

- Keep a close eye on children at events where fireworks are used.

Consumer fireworks:
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is opposed to consumer use of fireworks. This includes sparklers and firecrackers. Even sparklers burn hot enough to cause third-degree burns.

Montclair July 4th Celebrations Promise a Fun-Packed Day PDF Print E-mail

Caporales San Simon Montclair's 65th annual Independence Day Parade promises a host of spectacular performances and live entertainment on Saturday, July 4. The parade begins at 11:00 a.m. along a 1.6 mile route traveling west on Bloomfield Avenue to Midland Avenue, continuing to Watchung Avenue, west to Valley Road and ending at Edgemont Park, where the July 4th Family Picnic will be held.

The Montclair July 4th Fireworks display will take place at Yogi Berra Stadium on Montclair State University campus. The stadium admission fee is $3 per person or $10 for a family, free for kids ages 5 and under. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. Free parking will be available at the Carparc Diem deck, adjacent to Floyd Hall Arena and at the Red Hawk parking deck. Overflow vehicles will be directed to other parking areas. (Please note: concessions will be available; no outside food, water or other drinks may be brought into the stadium.)

The Township’s 2015 Independence Day celebrations are made possible with the tireless efforts of the Montclair Celebrates Committee and the generosity of the local community.

Coffee with a Cop logoThe Montclair Police Department Community Service Unit (CSU) continues its highly-successful “Coffee With A Cop” program with two events scheduled for June and July:

Thursday, June 25: 9:00 a.m. at Bonjour Montclair Café and Creperie, 254 Park Street

Friday, July 10: 9:30 a.m. at Trend Coffee and Tea House, 411 Bloomfield Ave

The “Coffee With A Cop” program strives to form partnerships with all Montclair residents and businesses. All too often the community only interacts with police in times of crisis. In an effort to foster positive relationships with the police, the Montclair Police Department is proud to continue “Coffee With A Cop.”

The idea behind “Coffee With A Cop” is to afford the public an opportunity to meet and speak with their local law enforcement professionals in an open and friendly atmosphere.

“Coffee With A Cop” is being successfully conducted by over 175 different police agencies in 36 different states. The public is afforded an opportunity to have questions answered or to just say hello and meet the people that wear the uniform -- all over a delicious cup of coffee.
