Bike Depot expected to revolutionize bicycle commutation to NJ Transit stations

Montclair area commuters now have a secure place to store bicycles at the Bay Street train station. Today, Montclair Township, in partnership with the New Jersey Bike & Walk Coalition (NJBWC), unveiled a new Bike Depot – the first of its kind in the state – to provide safe, secure, weather-protected storage for bikes, helmets and personal items.

“Montclair wants to expand access to our six commuter train stations by providing alternative transportation options and the new Bike Depot is an integral part of this,” said Montclair’s Mayor Robert Jackson. “Not only is it another step toward becoming a more sustainable community by helping reduce vehicle emissions and lowering our carbon footprint, it also encourages residents to adopt a more healthful lifestyle. We thank all our sponsors for their generous support for this endeavor.”

MPD to Host First "Coffee with a Cop" Oct 17 PDF Print E-mail

Wednesday, October 15, 2014ALT

The Montclair Police Department Community Service Unit (CSU) will host a new program, “Coffee with a Cop,” beginning on Friday, October 17, 8:00-10:00 a.m., at Trend Coffee & Tea House, 411 Bloomfield Avenue. The idea behind “Coffee With A Cop” is to afford the public an opportunity to meet and speak with local law enforcement professionals in an open and friendly atmosphere.

Montclair’s CSU strives to form partnerships with all of Montclair -- residents as well as businesses. All too often, the community only interacts with the police in times of crisis. “Coffee with a Cop” is an effort to foster positive relationships with the police.

The program has already proved successful in over 175 police agencies in 36 states. The public may ask questions of the officers or just pop in to meet the person in uniform and say hello over a nice hot cup of coffee.
